Brand Haven is an experienced, boutique brand consultancy and trade mark registration practice focused on the ‘legal’ aspects of branding. We ensure that the creation, development, protection and maintenance of brands is done correctly.

Brand Haven was established by Philip Macken in July 2017. Philip is a lawyer and registered patent and trade mark attorney with over 30 years’ experience in the field of intellectual property, with a particular focus on branding and trade marks.
Philip spent 15 years in two of Australia’s leading commercial law firms, during which time he was a founding partner of the patent attorney practice within one of these firms. Philip has also been a partner at another leading, boutique intellectual property practice in Sydney, for about 8 years, prior to establishing Brand Haven.
Philip graduated from the University of New South Wales with a combined Science/Law degree in 1985. In 1985, Philip was admitted, as a solicitor, to the Supreme Court of New South Wales and, since 1994, he has been a Fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorney of Australia (‘IPTA’).
Over the last 30 years, Philip has practised exclusively in the field of intellectual property and he takes great pride in the excellent results he has achieved for clients during this time.
Philip is a member of the following professional associations:
- The Institute of Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia (IPTA)
- The Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ)
- International Trade Mark Association (INTA)
Philip’s other interests include various outdoor sports, including surfing, swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddle-boarding and walking. He has a strong interest in environmental and humanitarian issues and he regularly participates in ocean and land-based clean up exercises.
